Back to life, back to reality

I rang out 2007 on a remote island in Panama. It was a week of a lot of beach time, but no TV and no Internet access. I actually had to read a real book. My mother would have been proud.

Like Soul II Soul, I’ve been trying to get back into the rhythm of working, and have set myself up with a steady diet of Joost viewing to keep me motivated. I’ve been rationing these out between “action items,” but maybe you want to watch them all during lunch.

Samurai2.jpgIndyMogul: Backyard FX 11: Samurai Armor

I’ve already admitted my fondness for kung fu movies. Maybe next year I’ll be a samurai warrior for Halloween. (Plus, I met Erik Beck at the NewTeeVee Pier Screenings in New York this year, and he’s a funny guy.)

Jim recommended this one to me. I see a couple of flaws in the story line: first of all, the couple probably would have met on MUNI rather than BART, and secondly, the guy definitely would’ve gone to Missed Connections to find the girl. Personally, I find taking care of personal hygiene on the subway to be a turn off, but maybe that’s why I’m single.

RobotChicken.png [adult swim]: Robot Chicken #16 - "Atta Toy"

Another reader recommendation … actually, Allan sent this to me using the share feature in Joost (you know, that little envelope in the controller). I recognized a lot of my old toys in this one, and now I’m sad I gave them up a couple of years ago and can’t play with them anymore.

lagrua.png Undergroundfilms [Animation]: La Grúa y La Girafa

I picked this one for Henrik. He likes giraffes when they're on Joost. And it kind of reminds me of Panama. First of all, the title is in Spanish. Secondly, there is nice soothing music. Thirdly, there’s water, which kind of looks like the Panama Canal.

perfect%20pats.pngCBS Sports NFL: NFL Hot Topic: Perfect Pats

A bit of a selfish pick. I am a huge (American) football fan, and specifically root for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Who have won themselves a date with the undefeated New England Patriots in the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs this weekend.

warmojo.jpgWatchMojo.com: WarMojo – Top Ten Soccer Nations

I threw this one in here for Mike and all of my colleagues in Europe. I don’t want to ruin the suspense for you, but Mike’s Italians, the Brits and even the Dutch make the list.

obese.pngOnion News Network: In the Know: Should We Be Shaming Obese Children More?

I know this is trite and expected after the holiday season, particularly when I’ve just consumed a tin of popcorn for dinner … but I watch this show and change every reference of “obese children” to “Kerry.”

janelle.pngThe Sexy Clips Channel: Tropical Honeys: Janelle dancing in the rain

I put this one in to make up for my “typical girl” comment above. It’s just about as close to the line of NSFW as you can get without actually crossing it. Disclaimer: I watched as much of this as I felt was legitimate to watch for “work” purposes and was wondering when her rain dance would actually produce rain.

cougar.png Channel Frederator: Music Nerds

A not-unrelated story. I was in a bar with my dad and two of his colleagues a couple of years ago. This woman was hitting on one of my dad’s friends. The hunted walked back to the group and said, “I think I was just hit on by a double cougar.”
